more

so by now the news of Qatar's $100 million is all over CNN - well when they need a break from the coverage of Rehnquist's death (!!) that is.... i learned about Qatar's offer from the US Ambassador's wife in the locker room at the gym this morning [after having left for the gym in semi-shock from waking up to learn about Rehnquist] and it just buoyed my spirits after days of feeling dismayed about the katrina situation - even if there's much more that's needed.... funny thing about the gym actually - it's quite a scene at 6:30 a.m. to have a local sheikh teaching the ambassador's wife how to use the exercise ball while a fully veiled qatari woman on the treadmill chats away to an uber-trendy palestinan friend of mine who keeps her sunglasses on as she marches away.... :-) today everyone was excited about the news though - no matter how they fit into the odd little international doha community.... it was also a fitting answer to questions i found myself asking in my journal last night about what the point of unfathomable wealth was if it had no soul, if it wasn't used to do good.... again, what a country! forgive my flooding your inboxes, but wanted to share...
